Proof of Truthfulness

The word Sadaqah comes from 'Sidq' (truthfulness), because giving away hard-earned money proves the connection to the Afterlife is stronger than love for this world. The Prophet said, "Sadaqah extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire."

Types of Sadaqah

Many think Sadaqah is only money. The Prophet expanded the definition:

• "Your smile for your brother is charity."
• "Removing a stone from the path is charity."
• "Guiding someone who is lost is charity."
• "Pouring water into your brother's bucket is charity."

Sadaqah Jariyah

Endless charity (e.g., digging a well, planting a tree, sharing knowledge) continues to benefit the soul even after death, for as long as people benefit from it.
