The Highest Station
The Angel Jibreel asked the Prophet: "What is Ihsan?" He replied: "To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, He sees you." This is the pinnacle of faith.
Living with Muraqabah
Ihsan introduces the concept of Muraqabah (mindfulness/watchfulness). A person with Ihsan doesn't just avoid sin because of fear of punishment, but out of shyness and love for the Ever-Watching Lord. It transforms mundane acts—cooking, working, smiling—into worship because they are done with excellence for God's sake.
Ihsan affects our character. We treat others with kindness not because they deserve it, but because Allah loves kindness. We perfect our work not for the boss, but because Allah prescribes excellence in all things.
