The Unseen Soldiers: Belief in Angels

Understanding the nature, roles, and significance of angels in Islamic theology.

Created of Light

Belief in angels (Malaikah) is the second article of faith. Created from light, they are purely obedient beings who execute Allah's commands without hesitation. They have no free will to disobey.

Major Angels and Duties

  • Jibreel (Gabriel): The archangel entrusted with delivering revelations to the prophets.
  • Mikail (Michael): Responsible for rain and sustenance.
  • Israfil: The blower of the Trumpet to signal the Day of Judgment.
  • Malik al-Mawt: The Angel of Death, tasked with taking souls.
  • Kiraman Katibin: The "Honorable Scribes" who record our good and bad deeds on our shoulders.

Knowing that angels surround us at all times, recording our deeds and protecting us by Allah's command, increases a believer's mindfulness (Taqwa).
